We are deeply saddened by the loss of MaryAnn Harris. Married to Canadian author Charles de Lint since 1980, their partnership has been legendary. In her words, they were “lovers, best friends, fellow musicians, artists and business colleagues.”  Their concerts at SF conventions were well-known.

MaryAnn had been in hospital since September, 2021, recovering from a bout of Powassan virus, a rare tick-borne illness. Through the months, Charles, along with a large number of friends and supporters would visit her in her hospital room, reading to her and playing her favourite music, or just being there to offer some comfort.

Others helped the couple financially with GoFundMe and Patreon donations.

Charles has reported on Facebook that MaryAnn passed away peacefully on the afternoon of June 3rd. She leaves many friends, family and fans to mourn her, but she also leaves the legacy of her collaboration with Charles in their music and art.
