SUPPORT THE COPPER PIG WRITERS’ SOCIETY

Supporting SF Writing in Canada

We have been grateful over the years to receive operational funding for the publication of On Spec from the Alberta Government through a Cultural Industries magazine grant.

Due to rising costs and reducing revenues, in 2025 we switched to a digital format, when printing became untenable.  Now that the magazine is coming to an end, the Board of  the Copper Pig Writers’ Society will be looking for opportunities to further support and enhance the Canadian community of emerging Speculative fiction writers and poets.  This could include projects such as new teacher packages, or online mentoring of young writers, or a manuscript evaluation service. We’d like to be able to pay instructors and presenters a fair wage, so any financial support we receive will not be wasted. Besides publication of a magazine, the society itself has additional costs to cover, such as professional fees for bookkeeping, along with website maintenance and promotional activities.  We will be looking to the possibility of selling memberships in the future.

There are several ways in which you can contribute financially to the Society and help us continue our mandate to advance speculative short-fiction in Canada.   The Copper Pig Writers’ Society, which publishes On Spec, is not a registered charity, so we are unable to issue a tax receipt.
