ISSUE #116 CCOMING SOON!

We just sent Issue #116 to the printer, so subscribers will see it in their mail in another couple of weeks. We are happy to show you the splendid new cover, created for us by Edmonton artist James Beveridge, one of our oldest and dearest friends.

In the issue you will find amusing new works by Robert Runté, and Julia August, authors familiar to On Spec readers.   We have several authors new to On Spec this time around, such as Lisa Gregoire, Daniel G. Keohane, Ryan Benson, Scott Shank, Jakob Drud, Amelia Dee  Mueller,  along with poets Nicholas Dolan, and Liam Siemens. Lynne Taylor Fahnestalk returns with a new cartoon and a delightful ‘Bot image.

We cannot wait for this issue to be in the hands of our readers. If your subscription has expired, now is the time to renew. Feel free to drop us a line at onspecmag@gmail.com if you aren’t sure.

This is also a great time for you to help us reduce our inventory by buying a gift for your friends who enjoy SF&F stories. If you do buy someone a gift subscription, we will extend your own On Spec subscription by 1 issue.

Best wishes and stay well!

2018 Aurora Awards

We are honoured to have On Spec on the final ballot for this year’s Aurora Awards!

The total list of nominees hasn’t been posted on the Aurora website yet, but it will be on the weekend, so go there and see how utterly cool and talented all these Canadian SF creators are! Voting information will also be available.

Best of luck to all our fellow nominees.

Congrats to Eileen Bell!

We just received the wonderful news that former On Spec editor, now murder mystery author Eileen Bell (writing as E.C. Bell) is this year’s winner of the annual Bony Blithe –  The Bloody Words Light Mystery Award!

Her book, “Dying on Second“, is the 4th in the continuing series of Edmonton-based mysteries, featuring the amateur sleuth and “speaker to departed spirits”, Marie Jenner. If you aren’t intrigued yet, you should be. And she’s working on Book 5, so you have some catching up to do!

On Spec Editors & Young Writers

On Spec editors and friends will be participating at Sci-Fi City: An Evening of Networking with On-Spec and Co., presented by the Writers Guild of Alberta in conjunction with the Edmonton branch of the Canadian Authors Association.

The event takes place Monday, April 30, and details are available here. It’s aimed at young writers 18-30, and we will be available for Q&A, mixing and mingling in an informal setting at the Almanac.

We can give advice about networking opportunities, and best ways of presenting your work to a prospective publisher, or how to get started on the self-publishing journey.

RSVP is requested for this Facebook event, so we hope to see lots of young writers there.
