On Spec will be opening the window for new submissions of Fiction and Poetry (no art or cartoons) as of September 1, 2021. We will keep this period short, so the end date for submissions of new works will be September 30, 2021.

Watch our Submissions page for links. If you sent us a work in 2020, your registration information is still available, although to save space,  we have deleted the stories that were declined last year. If you are new to On Spec, you will find instructions on creating your own registration as a writer to be able to submit and track your story or poem. Please follow the instructions closely!

We ask that you send ONE item with each submission. Multiple poems in one submission, for example, make it difficult for us to track.

PLEASE do not send us a work in PDF format. Word or RTF only.
